Cloud Collective Support Updated by Cloud Collective Support

Introduction

You're working from home and have a printer you want to utilize to print out documents from the office, but you're unsure how you can do that. This guide will quickly help you get that printer connected to your remote PC so you can print out documents at home.

How to Setup Printer Redirection

Before we continue, please ensure that the PC you use to work remotely can use your printer at home. Additionally, if you're currently logged into your PC remotely, please close the connection before proceeding.

  1. Right-click on the file used to remotely access your work PC,
  2. Click on "Edit,"
  3. Go to the "Local Resources" tab,
  4. Under "Local devices and resources" there will be a "Printers" option with a checkbox. Check the box,
  5. Go back to the "General" tab and click "Save"

Testing

Once you've logged in remotely there are two things you can do to ensure that your home printer has redirected to your remote PC.

  1. Go into the settings,
  2. Click on "Devices,"
  3. Click on the "Printers & Scanners" tab,
  4. The redirected printers should say something along the lines of HP/Canon/Brother Model# (redirected 2).
  5. Finally, you can try to print out a test document and change the printing option to your home printer

Closing

If the print from your remote session comes out of your home printer, congrats! You've just redirected your remote prints to your home.
