How to set up a mobile hotspot (iPhone/Android)

Cloud Collective Support Updated by Cloud Collective Support

A mobile hotspot allows you to create a WiFi network using your cellphone's mobile data. You can use this to share mobile data with your laptop or other devices.

On iPhone:

  1. Open Settings and click "Personal Hotspot"
  2. Turn on the hotspot. Set the password to whatever you'd like. The default one can be difficult to remember/type.
  3. On your other device find the hotspot wireless network. It should be the same name as your iPhone unless you specify something else.
  4. Go back to Bluetooth settings. Pair your laptop with your iPhone. This resolves a possible issue with your laptop refusing to connect to the hotspot despite entering the correct password.

On Android:

  1. Open Settings and click "Network & Internet"
  2. Click Hotspot & Tethering
  3. Toggle the hotspot on. Then click on Wi-Fi hotspot to check the settings
  4. Here you can see your hotspot name and set a password. Use this to connect from your other device.
