How to Unlock Your Account VIA the Microsoft Online Password Reset Portal

Introduction

The purpose of this guide is to show users how they can unlock their accounts VIA the Microsoft Online Password Reset Portal.

NOTE: This method only works if it has been enabled for your company.

Guide

  1. Open up a web browser on a device that can access the internet
  2. In the search bar, type in passwordreset.onmicrosoft.com or click on this link here: Microsoft Online Password Reset
  3. Enter in your account username and the captcha
  4. Select the "I know my password, but still can't sign in" option
  5. Approve an authenticator request or enter the code from your authenticator app
    Note: The "approve a notification on my authenticator app" option is only available for users who have the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on their device.
  6. Approve the notification/enter in the code presented in the app
  7. Once the authenticator request or code has been entered, you should receive a screen that saying your account has been unlocked.
  8. Try to login to your office PC now to confirm you are able to get in now.
