Enrolling Your Android Device in Intune

Your Android device needs to be enrolled in Microsoft Intune before you can access firm resources such as email, SharePoint, and Teams from it. Enrollment lets IT confirm your device meets the firm’s security standards. It does not give IT access to your personal data, photos, or apps.

Intune only manages your work account and work apps. Your personal content is not visible to IT.

What You Need Before Starting

•       Your Android device (Android 8.0 or later)

•       Your work email address (@ovcounsel.com)

•       Your work account password and access to MFA (Microsoft Authenticator or phone number)

•       A Wi-Fi connection

•       Google account to install Company Portal from the Google Play Store

Enrollment Steps

1.     Install Microsoft Company Portal — Open the Google Play Store on your Android device, search for “Company Portal”, and install the app published by Microsoft Corporation.

2.     Open Company Portal and sign in — Open the app, tap Sign in, and enter your work email address (e.g. yourname@ovcounsel.com). Complete MFA when prompted.

3.     Begin enrollment — After signing in, tap Begin or Set up your device and follow the on-screen prompts.

4.     Activate the Device Administrator or Work Profile — Company Portal will ask you to activate device management permissions. Tap Activate or Allow when prompted. On Android 9 and later, this creates a separate Work Profile — your personal apps remain unaffected.

5.     Return to Company Portal — Go back to the Company Portal app. It will verify the device is enrolled and check that your device meets compliance requirements. This may take a minute or two.

6.     Confirm enrollment is complete — Once done, Company Portal will show “You’re all set!” or display your device as compliant. You can now access firm resources from your Android device.

Compliance Requirements

After enrollment, your device must meet the following requirements to access firm resources. Company Portal will tell you if anything needs attention.

Requirement

What to Do

Android version up to date

Go to Settings > Software Update (or System > System Update) and install any pending updates

PIN, password, or biometric enabled

Go to Settings > Security > Screen Lock and configure a PIN or password if not already set

Screen lock timeout

Screen should lock after a short period of inactivity (Settings > Display > Screen Timeout)

Troubleshooting

Company Portal won’t activate device management

•       Ensure you tapped Allow or Activate when prompted during enrollment

•       If you accidentally denied the permission, go to Settings > Apps > Company Portal > Permissions and grant Device Administrator access, then retry enrollment in the app

•       On some Samsung and Xiaomi devices, additional manufacturer permissions may be required — follow any additional prompts

Company Portal says device is not compliant after enrollment

•       Check for Android updates: Settings > Software Update or System > System Update

•       Ensure a PIN, password, or biometric screen lock is configured

•       Open Company Portal and tap the non-compliant item — it will show you exactly what to fix

•       After making changes, tap Check Status or wait a few minutes for it to re-evaluate

Stuck on “Checking device status” for a long time

•       Ensure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection

•       Force-close Company Portal and reopen it

•       Restart your Android device and reopen Company Portal
